At Save Valley Forge Road, we are dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and diverse ecosystem along the Valley Forge Road Greenway and Saugatuck River in Weston, CT.

The historic character of this 300 year-old country road will be changed forever if the proposed Weston Town Plan is approved by the Weston Conservation Commission at its meeting on June 26, 2025.

If the Town Plan is approved, the Valley Forge Road Greenway will become an industrial-strength highway with increased road speeds and unevaluated impacts on the Saugatuck River corridor.

The Town Plan will transform Valley Forge Road forever.

  • Most people are in favor of widening the road where it is too narrow and adding safe guardrails.
  • The Town Plan requires extensive excavation and cement infrastructure along a country road that was never intended to serve as a main thoroughfare.
  • The Town proposes major drainage work within the watercourses and wetlands without showing specific designs. Important details regarding these proposed changes have not been shared with the property owners impacted by the proposed changes.
  • We believe that the impacts of proposed road work in the middle of the Saugatuck River ecosystem, including the river, streams, wetlands, and woodlands, have not been fully assessed.

The Plan has unevaluated impacts on the Saugatuck ecosystem.

  • Destruction of 100+ trees and shrubs on Town and private property
  • Removal of historic fieldstone wall sections
  • Cement walls the length of four football fields!

The Plan will impact perennial streams.

  • Proposed construction of new drainage configurations within watercourses that drain into the Saugatuck River.
  • Large drainage easements proposed without discussion with property owners.
  • Inadequate erosion mitigation

Valley Forge Road co-exists with many natural streams, watercourses and nearby wetlands that the proposed road infrastructure will impact.

The Plan will turn Valley Forge Road into a Speedway.

  • Local residents have repeatedly complained to the Police Commission regarding excessive speeding on Valley Forge Road.
  • The Plan will result in greater disregard for the road's 25 MPH speed limit.

There is a Better Way.
